This relief is available for the failure to pay penalty. When a federal income tax return has been filed late, the penalty is usually assessed at a rate up to 5% per month. This relief is available for forms in the Form 1040, 1120, and other series listed in Notice 2022-36. It can be accessed today at IRS.gov.
The federal Fresh Start Program does not offer tax relief. Only those who meet the eligibility criteria will be eligible. If you are unable to show that paying your tax bill would result in significant financial hardship, then you will need to be eligible for the IRS Fresh Start Initiative. What type of Fresh Start tax program you can access will depend on the severity of your financial hardship. While the IRS provides guidelines on what constitutes a financial emergency, it is up to you to prove that hardship.
Non-owning relatives residing in the dwelling, other than a spouse, shall exclude the first $6,500 of their income. There is no deduction for a relative who has no income. Applicants who are permanently and totally disabled may exclude the first $7,500 of income. Relatives (other than spouse) who are permanently and totally disabled and receive income due to their disability, may exclude this income from the total combined income.
